Materials of Trade Training – DOT 49CFR 173.6 Exceptions
This training program provides commercial motor vehicle drivers and fleet employees with essential knowledge regarding federal Materials of Trade (MOT) regulations. Participants will learn how to legally transport small quantities of hazardous materials that directly support their primary business operations.
- Identify which hazardous materials qualify as Materials of Trade.
- Determine the maximum quantity and weight limits allowed per vehicle.
- Apply correct packaging, labeling, and securement methods.
- Understand operator safety and reporting requirements for leaks or spills.
- Recognize the critical exceptions to full shipping paper and placarding rules.
The training covers DOT 49CFR 173.6 requirements.
This course is designed for field technicians, contractors, plumbers, landscapers, utility workers, and any personnel transporting tools, equipment, or supplies containing hazardous materials (such as fuel cans, compressed gas cylinders, paints, or batteries).

You have a year to use the code to access the training.
You can stop and start and go back to where you left off in the training. You do not have to complete it all at once.
You have an unlimited amount of times to take the final test. You can also retrake the training if needed.
Our webinars are live webinars conducted by an instructor over the computer using a webinar software. Our webinars are private to you and/or your trainees. We setup a date and time that works for both you and our instructor. Our webinars are conducted Monday – Friday. Saturdays are at an additional cost.

We provide LMS training modules of our online computer based training to clients by dispatching it to their learning management system. We can customize the training or even provide provide our standard training for you. We can customize the content to a few of the hazards you are shipping. We would need you to provide the SDS’s of the hazmats that you are shipping and the quantities you are shipping them in. From there we will customize the content to what you are shipping, so the training is relevent to what you are shipping.
