- (i) “Employed on a full-time, part time, or temporary basis by a hazmat employer and who in the course of such full time, part time or temporary employment directly affects hazardous materials transportation safety;”

- Picks out the packaging for the hazmat shipment
- Provides placards for a hazmat shipment
- Loads or unloads hazmat packages
- Supervises the hazmat shipping team
What are the Hazmat Training Requirements?
Per 49CFR §172.704 Subpart H, Hazmat shipper employee training must include the following:
- (1) General awareness/familiarization training
- (2) Function-specific training
- (3) Safety training
- (4) Security awareness training
- (5) In-depth security training
How often is DOT (49 CFR) Hazardous Materials Training Required?
DOT certification needs to be renewed EVERY 3 YEARS.
Additional requirements are:
- A new employee must be trained within 90 days of being hired or assigned to hazmat shipping.
- A new employee must work under supervision until trained.
- Employers MUST keep records of hazmat training.
