PHMSA: Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Safety Center

Grand Opening
Wednesday April 22, 2026, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT), Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) celebrated its grand opening of the first ever LNG Safety Center to promote American energy. Dubbed “The Center” the National Center of Excellence for Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Safety, opened its doors at McNeese State University.
The Center will act as the nation’s hub for LNG research and innovation, development of best practices, regulatory coordination, and education. The 5,400 square foot office space has been deemed President Trump’s continuation since his first term to secure America’s dominance in the energy sector. The Center was first conceptualized through the National Center of Excellence under the Protecting our Infrastructure of Pipelines and Enhancing Safety (PIPES) Act of 2020.
