OSHA: Compliance Dates
Hazard Communication Standard
You may recall back in 2024 the Occupational Health and Safety Administration finalized their Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) final rule in which they amended the HCS to align with Global Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). Within that final rule, there were many updates and changes which had differing compliance dates to which stakeholders needed to comply with the OSHA changes. On January 12, 2026, another final rule; extension of compliance dates was issued in the Federal Register. This final rule was in response to manufacturers, importers, and distributors’ request for guidance to comply with the new standards.
Because OSHA was unable to complete the request by January 12, 2026, a four-month extension was implemented for the first compliance deadline. The new deadline, which is just around the corner and is scheduled for May 19, 2026, is specific for § 1910.1200(j)(2)(i). Three more deadlines have also been pushed back and go all the way to 2028.
