Site-Specific Targeting

Recently The U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) published a National News Release updating its inspection program which focusses on establishments with the highest rate of injuries and illnesses based on submitted data in accordance with its recordkeeping requirements on injury and illnesses.

As of May 20, 2025, the site-specific targeting program, which focuses on non-construction establishments with 20 or more employees, is OSHA’s principal inspection program for non-construction establishments with the highest rates of injury and illness. OSHA will be using data collected from calendar years 2021-2023 on OSHA’s Form 300A to make their determinations. Establishments may be chosen based on the following criteria:

• High injury and illness rate establishments from 2023 data.

• Upwardly trending establishments based on 2021-2023 data at or above twice the 2022 private sector average.

• Establishments significantly below industry averages; and

• Those establishments that failed to submit an OSHA Form 300A in 2023.
