Domestic Aerosol’s

Earlier this month the Department of Transportation (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) published it’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to update the definition of an aerosol. PHMSA believes this update will help reduce both unnecessary regulatory burdens while also harmonizing closer with international standards. As of now international standards does not include the limitation for gas to be used to expel liquid, paste, or powder. This lack of harmonization often creates substantial difficulties for those engaged in global commerce. For this reason, PHMSA is proposing to revise the definition of an aerosol in § 171.8.

For those interested in commenting, all comments must be received on or before September 2, 2025. While this may seem like a far way away. As of this publication it is a mere 46 days away. It should also be noted that when you submit a comment, they are posted without changes or edits to include personal information that is provided.
