A List You Don’t Want to Make

It’s that time of year again. The time of year where we discuss the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) top ten most cited violations for fiscal year 2025. On September 16, 2025 Eric Harbin, the OSHA Regional Administrator in Dallas, gave everyone who attended the NSC’s 2025 Safety Congress and Expo a preliminary glimpse at the list, which was based on August 12, 2025, data. It is likely not to change much as it did not change much from last year either. Many of the usual suspects made the list which you can find below:

      1. Machine Guarding (1910.212): 1,239 Violations- No change
      2. Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment – Eye and Face Protection (1926.102): 1,665 Violations- No change
      3. Powered Industrial Trucks-Forklifts (1910.178): 1.826 Violations -No change
      4. Scaffolding (1926.451): 1,905 Violations – No change
      5. Fall Protection– Training Requirements (1926.503): 1,907 Violations- No change
      6. Respiratory Protection (1910.134): 1,953 Violations- No change
      7. Lockout/Tagout (1910.147): 2,177 3 Violations- No change
      8. Ladders (1926.1053): 2,405 Violations- No change
      9. Hazard Communication (1910.1200): 2,546 Violations- No Change
      10. Fall Protection-General Requirements (1926.501): 5,914- No Change

Although there was no shift in placement from last year, there were many categories who decreased the number of total violations. Harbin also noted many of the violations came from smaller businesses who do not have the resource but have the “ability and desire” to comply.
