IATA DGR 67th Edition Significant Changes and Amendments (2026)

Recently published by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), was the 67^th edition of the Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) changes and amendments, which incorporate all amendments made by the ICAO Dangerous Goods Panel. In its publication, it highlights some of the major changes which include the likes of:

• State and Operator Variations
• Updates for UN 3166 and Special Provisions
• Clarifications
• Handling Updates; and
• Appendix H changes

Along with the changes above, it should be noted that January 1, 2026, the state of charge (SOC) for shippers of lithium batteries will become mandatory which limits the SOC to not exceeding 30% of their rated design capacity or an indicated battery capacity not exceeding 25%:

• UN 3481, lithium-ion batteries packed with equipment where the cells/batteries have a Watt-hour rating greater than 2.7 Wh. 
• UN 3556, Vehicle, lithium-ion battery powered where the battery has a Watt-hour rating greater than 100 Wh.
