Notice of Public Meeting: Lithium Battery
Time Is Running Out
In case you didn’t know, there is just 8 short days left to submit your remarks for the forthcoming Lithium Battery Air Safety Advisory Committee Public Meeting which takes place November 2, 2023. The Department of Transportation (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) requests that all those wishing to attended respond by October 18, 2023. All those wishing to speak at the public meeting must also submit a copy of their remarks to the DOT by October 18, 2023 as well.
The meeting will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will address the topics below but are not limited to:
- Facilitate communication among manufacturers of lithium batteries and products containing lithium batteries, air carriers, and the federal government.
- Provide the Secretary with information regarding new technologies and transportation safety practices.
- Advise and recommend activities to improve the global enforcement of U.S. regulations and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instructions relevant to air transportation of lithium batteries, and the effectiveness of those regulations.
- Review methods to decrease risks posed by undeclared hazardous materials.
- Discuss the effectiveness and the economic and social impacts of lithium battery transportation regulations.
It should also be noted that an agenda will be posted on the Lithium Battery Air Safety Advisory Committee website at least 15 days in advance of the meeting.
