      What is RCRA?

The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) was put in place to protect the enviornment and people from harmful and hazardous waste.

Created in 1976 as an amendment to the Solid Waste Disposal Act, RCRA addresses hazardous (Subtitle C) and solid (Subtitle D) waste management activities.

Later, Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments (HSWA) were brought about in 1984 to enhance RCRA’s waste management provisions.  It also brought about the addition of Subtitle I, to govern underground storage tanks (USTs).

All in all, the RCRA basically covers:

      Solid waste and hazardous waste

      Universal Waste

      Used Oil Management Standards

      Underground Storage Tanks

      Why is RCRA Training Important?

The amount of harmful and hazardous waste a factory generates in a month, which is referred to as the “generator status” acts as the deciding factor for the level of training required.

The main aim of the Resource Conservation Recovery Act Hazardous Waste Training is to ensure that harmful waste is effectively transported, handled and disposed.

By managing the process correctly, it can reduce the amount generated waste and ensure that as much waste as possible is managed in an environmentally friendly and safe way!

      Who Should Have RCRA Training?

RCRA Training is vital to a number of organizations and businesses.

The law states (40 CFR 260.10) that any person, by site, whose process or produces any kind of waste, which is listed or identified in Part 261, or whose process or act first determines a harmful and a hazardous waste to become accountable to regulation, is required to have RCRA Training.

RCRA training includes but is not limited to:

      • Waste management personnel
      • Hazardous waste generators
      • Facility personnel

TCA’s RCRA training is designed and structured for the producer and generator of harmful and hazardous waste and is completely tailored and customized as per individual requirement.

It is highly crucial that RCRA training is handled in a proper and professional manner for effective management of hazardous waste.
