GHS Hazcom Update!
What Does It Mean For You?
In a recent update posted on April 13th 2021, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), extended the comment period an extra 30 days to “allow stakeholders additional time to review the proposed rule and collect information and data necessary for comment.†It is in their opinion that the original Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) to the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) will:
- Increase worker protections
- Reduce incidents of chemical related occupational illness and injury
- Revised criteria for classification of certain health and physical hazards
- Revised provisions for updating labels
- New small container labeling provisions
- Technical amendments related to Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Revision of some definitions
With that being said, the deadline has now passed for the extension of April 19, 2021. However, with OSHA reminding people so close to the deadline, stay tuned into TCA to see if there is another revised date added.
