HAZCOM Compliance 2026

Are You Ready?
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) updated its Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) with its final rule which was published on May 20,204 and took effect July 19, 2024. In it, OSHA laid out specific dates and compliance deadlines for employers, manufacturers, importers, and distributors to update certain aspects of their workplace programs, labels, and employee training. The first of these deadlines is just around the corner on January 19, 2026.
Manufacturers, importers, and distributors must update labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to comply with revised portions of 29 CFR 1910.1200. Such updates include:
- Revised classification criteria
- Expanding SDS requirements
- Improved Labels
- New hazard classes
- More information for first responders on trade secrets
Be sure to look out for more compliance dates to come this year. Especially since this rule spans all the way until January 19, 2028, with the next compliance date following January is July 20, 2026.
