OSHA to Beef Up Its Severe Safety and Health Violations Program
Keeping You Safer!
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently released an overview of what changes they are implementing to their Severe Safety and Health Violations Program (SVEP) via the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) website on September 15, 2022. In it, they touch on:
- The expansion of program criteria to include all hazards and OSHA Standards
- Program placement for two willful or repeated violations; or failure-to-abate notices dependent on seriousness of the violation
- Implementation of a timeline for follow-up or referral inspections within one year, but no longer than two years after final order.
- Potential removal from SVEP three years after all SVEP-related hazards have been addressed.
- Time reduction in SVEP with an enhanced settlement agreement which involves implementing a safety and health management system.
