      Reviewing and Maintaining Hazardous Profiles

      Routine isn’t always a good thing, especially when it comes to waste streams. In fact, most waste streams are altered with time, and it’s important to recognize when these changes occur. Here are a few examples of when waste streams change.

      You’re altering your chemical product

      Waste composition may change overtime, and when it does it’s important to review waste profiles to maintain an accurate representation for your records. To do this, you need to hold a yearly profile review. You can do this through a waste vendor if need be. To be compliant with any hazardous waste management program, consider these questions:

      • Is the generating process still active? 

      • Has it been changed in any way since the last review?

      • Have any chemical constituents been replaced, added or removed? 

      • Do any new RCRA codes apply to the profile? 

      • Have the amendments presented above changed shipping information?

      Secure Records for your Profiles 

      Many states require specific documentation for waste composition and generation. In such cases, it is vital that you keep a hard copy of these records along with analytics data. This will stand as your record of waste. Use a binder to keep active profiles for future reference.

      The High Cost of Inaccurate Records

      Not only does maintaining accurate waste profiles help secure the safety of your company and workers, it is also much more cost-efficient when it comes to avoiding fees. All employers should be well aware of any changes to your hazardous waste as well as the potential for exposure at any time.

      Without an accurate waste profile, you will very likely be unable to keep your workers safe. With altered waste composition, additional shipping and processing fees are likely as are penalties. Avoiding both is in the best interest of your company.
