Civil Penalties Increase
Hot off the heels of the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Final Rule increasing penalty amounts, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has followed suit with their own final rule increasing civil penalty amounts for 2025 as well. It should be noted, these new penalty amounts only apply to those civil penalties assessed after the January 15, 2025, effective date. Listed below are some of the more common violations:
- Serious and other-than-serious increased $419 from $16, 131 to $16,550 per violation
- Failure to abate and failure to post increased $419 from $16, 131 to $16,550 per violation
- Willful or repeated maximum increased $4,191 from $161,323 to $165,514 per violation
- Willful or repeated minimum increased $299 from $11,524 to $11,823 per violation
